Bobcat Pounce race set for April 18 at Montana State

BOZEMAN - All are invited to participate in an upcoming 5-kilometer race to help fund scholarships for students in Montana State University's College of Education, Health and Human Development.

The 5th annual Bobcat Pounce: 5K Run, Walk Stroll will be held on campus starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18. The race's starting and ending point and check-in tables will be at MSU underneath the walkway that connects the parking garage to Norm Asbjornson Hall.

Joe Hicks, associate teaching professor in the college and race director, said all proceeds from the annual event help fund student scholarships. This year it will support the General EHHD Scholarships Fund. Gifts to this fund support merit and need-based scholarships to students becoming teachers, counselors, physical therapists, food systems leaders, community health professionals and more. To commemorate the fifth annual event, there is a goal of raising $50,000 and having 500 participants, Hicks said.

The top three overall finishers will receive prizes. Medals will be awarded in the 0-9 age group.

All participants will be eligible for various donated raffle prizes throughout the event.

For the second year, the Bobcat Pounce is part of the "Spring into Spring 5K Trifecta" series. The Bobcat Pounce is the second race of the series, and runners who participate in all three races will be eligible for a grand prize for the lowest combined time and a prize selected by a random drawing.

Registration for the Bobcat Pounce is $25, with online registration available through midnight on Friday, April 17, and in-person registration available from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. Long-sleeve Bobcat Pounce T-shirts will also be available for purchase at the event for $20, with sales benefitting student scholarship funds.

Parking in the MSU parking garage and in Bobcat, Elk, Moose, Stadium, Trout and Wolf parking lots is free on weekends unless otherwise marked. A campus parking map is available at https://www.montana.edu/parking/.
