"The launch of SolarAPP+ gives Tempe homeowners another tool to meet the needs of our growing city while reducing demand on our energy grid," said Tempe Mayor Corey Woods. "This advances several of our City Council Strategic Priorities & Performance Measures, including Community Carbon Neutrality as well as Household Economic Stability."
SolarAPP+ streamlines the permitting process by enabling homeowners and licensed contractors to submit residential rooftop solar and energy storage permit applications online and get faster approvals through automated plan checks. This updated approach reduces wait times while ensuring projects comply with safety and building codes.
"By simplifying the permitting process and freeing up staff time, we can now help more residents take part in Tempe's clean energy future," said Anna Miramontes, Green Building and Energy Conservation Specialist for the City of Tempe.
With this new process, the City is helping make residential solar more accessible to the community. The launch of SolarAPP+ supports Tempe's Climate Action and sustainability goals by removing common barriers to renewable energy adoption and encouraging more residents to choose clean, locally-generated energy.
"SolarAPP+ creates a clear pathway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, add clean energy to the grid, and accelerate progress toward our community-wide goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050," said Andy Escobar, Energy Equity Coordinator for the City of Tempe.
Community members can be confident that when local installers use SolarAPP+ to permit their residential rooftop solar installations, their projects will be quick and compliant. The platform demonstrates Tempe's ongoing dedication to innovation, environmental responsibility, and customer-centered services.
Licensed contractors can start using SolarAPP+ right away to benefit Tempe's residents. More details are available on the City's website: Tempe Residential Plan Review
