UA Little Rock Students Have Chance to Study Abroad in Spain This Summer

Undergraduate and graduate students at UA Little Rock are invited to apply for an exciting study abroad course this summer in Spain.

Students in the interdisciplinary course will study interfaith history and intercultural communication as they travel across Spain from May 20 to June 1, visiting Madrid, Cordoba, Toledo, Granada, and the Spanish coast.

The three-credit-hour course will focus on how the modern and historical influences of religion have impacted Spanish culture, history, art, food, and politics. No prerequisite courses are necessary for the course, and all students are welcome to apply, regardless of major.

Participating students will engage with thought-provoking readings, lead respectful discussions, explore the experiences of real people in Spain, and share what they learn through blog posts and a public presentation upon their return from the trip. Students can read about a previous study abroad trip to Spain in this blog.

Students can find out more about the course by attending an information session at noon Jan. 29 in Ross Hall 104 and online via Zoom. Applications are due Feb. 8.

"This course is a great opportunity for students," said Dr. Rebecca Glazier, professor of public affairs, who is leading the trip with Dr. Avinash Thombre, professor of applied communication. "Talking about research in a beautiful plaza in Madrid, visiting the Alhambra, and meeting with local nonprofits that help refugees are experiences that students will never forget. Studying abroad is an educational highlight that we are excited to offer to more students."

The study abroad course is being supported by the Middle Eastern Studies Program at UA Little Rock, which is reducing the cost of the trip for students.
