On July 14, 2025, at 2:43 a.m., West District patrol officers responded to a burglar alarm at a Manitoba Hydro facility in the 1-99 block of Henlow Bay, where they arrested a suspect hiding between a fenced compound and an adjacent building.

Officers arrived on scene and found a man who had broken into the property and was in the process of collecting copper wire. He attempted to hide, but security personnel monitoring surveillance video provided real-time updates to officers. While taking him into custody, officers seized a knife in his possession and identification belonging to another individual. They also learned he was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to attend court and breaching previous release conditions.

Eric Albert PETERS (42)has been charged with break and enter, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of an identity document, breaching his undertaking, and failing to attend court. He was remanded into custody.

Copper theft is extremely dangerous and has resulted in serious injuries and death in Manitoba. It puts not only the lives of thieves at risk, but also endangers the lives of first responders, utility workers, and the public.
