Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against Republicans' funding bill that would give $10 billion in new funding for ICE, with no new restraints to rein in ICE's lawlessness. Last weekend, President Trump rejected a bipartisan proposal, led by Rosa DeLauro, to fund all agencies at the Department of Homeland Security, except for immigration enforcement, forcing TSA officers and the Coast Guard to continue to go without pay. House Democrats launched an effort to force a vote in the House on this plan- which would only require three Republicans to pass.
"Republicans need to end this charade," said Larson. "They are in control of the House, the Senate, and the White House. Instead of taking action to fund the government and pay TSA and the Coast Guard, they are holding them hostage and using Democrats as the scapegoat while trying to get us to agree to their Jim Crow-era voting restrictions known as the SAVE America Act. Let's cut right to the chase - it's time to stop the games, hold ICE accountable, fund the government, and get our workers paid. Democrats, led by Rosa DeLauro, have a plan to get it done. When will Republicans end this madness and work with us? And if they will not work with us, they need to pass my 'Make America Govern Again' Actto ensure all our civilian and military workers are paid while withholding pay for Members of Congress, the President, Vice President, and Cabinet members. It's politicians who should have to shoulder that burden, not our workers."
During the shutdown in October, Larson introduced the Make America Govern Again (MAGA) Actto ensure all civilian and military personnel get paid during a shutdown while withholding pay for Members of Congress, the President, the Vice President, and members of the Cabinet.
Following Trump's call to 'nationalize elections,' Larson introduced the Stop ICE Election Militarization Actto protect American elections from illegal ICE interference. Larson has called for disbanding ICEand is championing legislation in Congress to require federal agents to identify themselves; bar ICE raidsin schools, hospitals, courthouses, and places of worship; ban abusive tacticsincluding chokeholds; and redirect ICE funding from the Republican budget to lower health care premiumsand expand affordable housing.
