On 15 March, a concert by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra was held at the Sydney Opera House. H.E. Consul General Wang Yu attended and delivered remarks. Ms. Brenna Hobson, Sydney Opera House Director of Programming, and Ms. Zhou Ping, Head of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, also attended the concert.
Wang Yu stated that the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra is the oldest symphony orchestra in Asia and enjoys worldwide reputation. During its tour in Australia, the orchestra has brought high-quality artistic enjoyment to local audiences in Sydney etc., adding a new highlight to China-Australia people-to-people and cultural exchanges. He expressed hope that both sides will take this opportunity to further strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation, and promote mutual learning between civilizations and closer bonds between the two peoples.
Conducted by Maestro Long Yu, the orchestra delivered brilliant performances featuring both Chinese and Western works, including the lively and life-inspired Chinese Kitchen, elegant and romantic cello classics, as well as magnificent and profound symphonic pieces. The performance demonstrated rich artistic charm and received repeated rounds of applause from the audience. The concert was a complete sell-out with a full house. It attracted a large audience from local cultural circles and the overseas Chinese community, and was met with an enthusiastic and warm response.
