The International Master's degree in social security has reached a key milestone with the completion of its first two-year cycle (2023-2025) and the launch of a new cycle (2026-2028).
On 7 March 2026, a diploma ceremony was held at Sciences Po Bordeaux, the International Social Security Association's (ISSA) academic partner, to celebrate graduates of the first class. The Director of Sciences Po, Dominique Darbon, congratulated the first ever graduates of the ISSA's Master's programme for their excellent work and achievements, before they joined the graduation ceremony for all Sciences Po students, where they received their European Master's degree.
Guillaume Filhon from the ISSA presented the graduates to the applause of fellow students.
The event marked the culmination of two years of intensive learning, collaboration and exchange among participants from diverse professional and geographical backgrounds. The ceremony also highlighted the strong partnership between the ISSA, Sciences Po Bordeaux and Forhom (Egis Conseil), and the commitment of the academic teams. The programme has provided a demanding and enriching learning experience, fostering rich exchanges between students and faculty.
Seven students completed the full two-year Master's programme, while others completed one or more of the four blocks. A webinar on 31 March 2026 showcased selected research, with Anouar Harim from Morocco presenting on retirement reform governance and Fatouma Said Abdallah from Djibouti on extending health insurance coverage, highlighting the programme's practical relevance and policy impact.
The new 2026-2028 cycle has started with strong interest and a highly competitive selection process. 17 students, around one-third of applicants, were finally admitted. They will be joined by participants enrolled for individual semesters, as well as a small number of participants completing outstanding modules from the first cohort.
Building on the lessons learned from the first cycle, several improvements have been introduced. These include an increased duration of in-person sessions and enhanced personalized support for participants. A formal charter on the use of artificial intelligence has also been established, with clear guidance and safeguards.
In addition, adjustments have been made to the teaching team based on participant feedback, administrative support for travel and visa procedures has been strengthened, and the ISSA's role in coordinating the programme has been reinforced.
Through the Master's programme, the ISSA continues to contribute to building the next generation of leaders in social security, equipped to address complex challenges in an international context. Currently available in French, the ISSA is examining the feasibility of expanding the programme to other languages.
