On 9 February, Consul General Chen Shijie met with Auckland Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson to exchange views on strengthening sister-city exchanges and cooperation. Vice Consul General Wang Junchao was also present.
Chen extended his Chinese New Year greetings to Simpson and spoke positively of the broad prospects for subnational cooperation. He expressed the hope that, under the leadership of the new City Council, Auckland's exchanges and cooperation with China would continue to yield new achievements and highlights.
Simpson thanked Chen for his kind wishes, noting that Auckland is home to the largest Chinese community in New Zealand and that its Chinese New Year celebrations are rich and diverse, showcasing the unique charm of Chinese culture. She emphasized Auckland's appreciation of its sister-city ties with China and expressed the city's expectation of facilitating more practical cooperation outcomes.
