Alumni spotlight: Taylor Robbins on career growth in the age of AI

Georgia College & State University alumnus Taylor Robbins (BBA '15, MBA. '23) has built an impressive career at Lockheed Martin, where he now serves as a software engineering leader. His journey - from an undecided freshman to an MIS major shaping data and AI strategy - illustrates how early academic influences, networking and lifelong learning can set the stage for success.

Robbins first discovered his passion for technology through a freshman seminar led by Dr. Brian Marshall. Inspired by the Management Information Systems program, he declared his major and credits professors Dr. Antoine Godin and Dr. Steve Goette for courses that gave him a strong technical and analytical foundation.

An internship with Lockheed Martin before his senior year turned into a full-time role, and Robbins has been with the company ever since. His work focuses on building analytic solutions that support production, operations, and supply chain decisions within the aeronautics data warehouse. In 2018, Robbins led a project that automated a week-long database process down to just four minutes-a breakthrough that earned him leadership opportunities and helped shape his career trajectory.

When the COVID-19 pandemic shifted work to a virtual format, Robbins used that time to pursue his MBA through Georgia College's WebMBA program. Completing both his MBA and Lockheed's leadership development program in 2023, he has continued to advance - recently accepting a new leadership position within the company.

AI has become a major part of Robbins' work. His team uses advanced tools to speed up development, automate processes and innovate faster than ever. Still, he emphasizes the importance of using AI responsibly:

"Trust but verify the output," he said. "AI lets us focus on strategy and deeper thinking. It's not replacing jobs - it's helping us work smarter."

Beyond his career, Robbins remains connected to Georgia College. He and his wife - also an alumna - met during Greek Week as freshmen and now live in Bremen, Georgia, with their two children. He continues to engage with the College of Business, most recently serving on a WebMBA alumni panel.

When asked what advice he'd offer current students, Robbins doesn't hesitate:

"Network as much as possible," he said. "The people who take the time to come back and speak to students care deeply about Georgia College. Learn from them, build relationships with your professors and take advantage of every opportunity. Those connections can shape your entire career."
