Chair Cassidy Discusses Republican Bill to Make Health Care Affordable, Give Money to Patients

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), chair of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, today delivered a speech on the U.S. Senate floor discussing how his Health Care Freedom for Patients Act with U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID), chair of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, works to lower health care costs by giving money directly to families. The U.S. Senate will vote on this historic Republican bill tomorrow, Thursday, December 11th , offering Americans an alternative to Democrats' plan, which sends taxpayer funds to giant insurance companies and leaves families with thousands of dollars in health care costs that they cannot afford.

"Republicans want to put thousands of dollars in your pocket to cover out-of-pocket costs," said Dr. Cassidy. "Democrats want to send $26 billion to insurance companies for plans that require you to pay $6,000 before insurance kicks in. Let's give power to the patient, not profit to the insurance company."

Background:

Cassidy has continuously called for Congress to work together on solutions to lower the cost of health insurance for families. Over the past few months Cassidy has urged Congress to address rising health care costs in a Senate Finance Committee hearing, a HELP Committee hearing, and on the U.S. Senate Floor.
