The Streets Department of Transportation Announces Temporary Closure of Ford Road between Chamounix Drive and Greenland Drive

The closure will allow crews to safely and efficiently begin the street repaving process

PHILADELPHIA - The Streets Department of Transportation (StreetsDOT) announces the temporary closure of Ford Road between Chamounix Drive and Greenland Drive starting 9:00 a.m. Monday, September 21 and continuing through 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 22.

What: Full closure so crews can safely and efficiently mill and pave new binder course on the roadway. Milling is the first phase of the street repaving process. For additional information, visit StreetsDOT's Paving Program webpage.

Where: Ford Road between Chamounix and Greenland Drive in West Fairmount Park near the Strawberry Mansion Bridge.

When: Monday, September 21, 9:00 a.m. through Tuesday, September 22, 5:00 a.m.

Walking, rolling, or biking: The shared-use side path along Ford Road will remain open.

Transit: No SEPTA routes are affected.

Driving: Eastbound traffic will not be able to access the Strawberry Mansion Bridge from Ford Road. Drivers are encouraged to access the bridge via MLK Drive or consider alternate routes to cross the Schuylkill River at the Falls Bridge or Girard Avenue Bridge. Westbound traffic will continue to use Greenland Drive and Chamounix Drive as usual.

To alert drivers Monday morning, variable message signs (VMS) will be placed at two nearby intersections: Belmont Avenue and Belmont Mansion Drive as well as Ford Road and Monument Road.

Parking: Parking along Ford Road will be restricted during the closure.

Residents and businesses: Access to the Greenland Nursery and Fairmount Park Organic Recycling Center will be maintained during the closure. No residences are affected.

StreetsDOT thanks residents for their patience and asks everyone to help keep work zones safe by slowing down, paying closer attention, and following all detours and directions when traveling near roadwork.
