Several Carle Health hospitals received American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association recognition through their Get With The Guidelines® program. Designations and honor roll recognitions are awarded for efforts to improve patient outcomes and address risk factors. Carle Health strives to provide quality care for all patients, and recognition from organizations like the AHA speaks to the system's ability to continuously meet a high standard of excellence.
Carle Eureka Hospital received the Stroke Rural Gold rating for providing quality stroke care to patients in rural communities. According to the AHA, those living in rural areas have a 30 percent higher risk of stroke.
"Less physical access to care than those in urban areas can significantly increase an individual's stroke risk factors and decrease the effectiveness of treatment after a stroke," said Anna Laible, administrator, Carle Eureka Hospital. "This achievement recognizes our efforts to provide needed care close to home and I'm proud of our team's ability to consistently deliver quick, life-saving stroke treatment."
Eureka Hospital, Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center, Carle Richland Memorial Hospital, Carle Health Proctor Hospital and Carle Health Pekin Hospital are recognized as Acute Stroke Ready Hospitals. These facilities are ready to begin stroke care and transfer patients to higher levels of care as needed.
Carle Foundation Hospital (CFH) is the only certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in a Level I Trauma Center in east central Illinois. This facility includes neurosurgeons and neurointerventional specialists available 24 hours a day to deliver treatment.
Carle BroMenn Medical Center and Carle Health Methodist Hospital are both Primary Stroke Centers and offer inpatient rehabilitation for patients recovering from a stroke.
"Recognition from the American Heart Association speaks to the excellent care we provide our patients and speaks to our program's quality that we meet their highest standard," Amrendra Miranpuri, MD, stroke medical director, Carle Comprehensive Stroke Center, Carle Foundation Hospital, said.
CFH was awarded the Stroke Gold Plus rating, meaning that the hospital met the highest quality standards for stroke care for 24 consecutive months or more.
"Earning 'Plus' as part of this rating also highlights the fact that we achieved specific targets for advanced quality measures," Dr. Miranpuri said. "This includes quick delivery of clot-busting medications and providing patients with specialized care and stroke education before they're discharged."
CFH also received Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll due to providing Type 2 Diabetes stroke patients evidence-based care to reduce their risk of complications. Carle Health Memoria and Carle BroMenn also received the Stroke Gold Plus and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll ranking and Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite ranking.
"Get With The Guidelines® recognition for stroke care demonstrates our ability to meet strict quality measures in diagnosing and treating strokes," Kimberly Cordell, BSN, RN, stroke and sepsis program coordinator, Carle Health Greater Peoria, said. "Our patients are cared for by a highly trained team using the latest treatments and technologies to give them the best possible outcomes."
"Our medical facility provides advance stroke care and effective procedures," Jennifer Hepner, MSN, RN, director of clinical operations, Carle BroMenn Medical Center, said. "Anyone can experience a stroke without warning, regardless of age, race or sex. This recognition lets our patients know they'll receive quick, interventional treatment that meets the high standards of the American Heart Association."
Carle Health Proctor and Carle Health Pekin both received the Stroke Silver Plus ranking for consistently meeting AHA stroke care quality measures.
"We continuously work to improve our response times to help minimize the effects of stroke," Angela Harrison, MSN, RN, clinical stroke program manager, Carle BroMenn Medical Center, said. "A Stroke Gold Plus ranking is a testament to those efforts and highlights how care is tailored to also address the risk factors that impact our patients."
"We also make sure our care extends beyond the initial response to a stroke," Hepner said. "After a stroke, we work with our patients and their support systems to optimize their recovery. We're proud to receive this ranking from the AHA. Our patients know our stroke programs are built by and led by a well-qualified and educated team members."
