State Transportation Board of Georgia Elects New Executive Leadership
ATLANTA, GA - The Georgia State Transportation Board (STB) elected its new executive leadership team at its monthly board meeting held on Thursday, August 20. Dennis McEntire, representing Georgia's 3rd Congressional District (CD 3), was elected chair; Tim Golden, representing Georgia's 8th Congressional District (CD 8), was elected vice chair; and Cathy Williams, representing Georgia's 2nd Congressional District (CD 2), was elected secretary. The new positions are effective immediately. Board elections are held annually to ensure all regions of the state are represented at the executive leadership level of the board.
Chair Dennis McEntire was first elected to the STB in 2022 and represents Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Fayette, Haralson, Harris, Heard, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Muscogee, Pike, Spalding, Troup, and Upson counties located in CD 3. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Business Administration and has dedicated his career to public service and infrastructure. His extensive experience includes serving as general manager of Newnan Utilities, where he played a pivotal role in supporting the city's growth. Additionally, McEntire has been actively involved in numerous community organizations, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to enhancing Georgia's infrastructure. His current term will expire in April 2027
Vice Chair Tim Golden was first elected to the STB in 2015 and serves Atkinson, Baldwin, Ben Hill, Berrien, Bibb, Bleckley, Brooks, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Crisp, Dodge, Echols, Houston, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jones, Lanier, Lowndes, Monroe, Pulaski, Telfair, Tift, Turner, Twiggs, Wilcox, Wilkinson, and Worth counties located in CD 8. He spent 10 years as a congressional assistant to U.S. Congressman Charles Hatcher, and in 1990, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives where he served for eight years. Golden was then elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1998 where he served for another 16 years before retiring from the Georgia General Assembly in 2014. His current term will expire in April 2030.
Secretary Cathy Williams was first elected to the STB in 2023 and represents Baker, Bibb, Calhoun, Chattahoochee, Clay, Crawford, Decatur, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Houston, Lee, Macon, Marion, Miller, Mitchell, Muscogee, Peach, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Seminole, Steward, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, Terrell, Thomas and Webster counties located in CD 2. With an extensive background in construction and housing, she served for nine years as Executive Director of Greater Columbus Home Builders Association and was the founding president and CEO of Neighborhood Works Columbus, a nationally recognized non-profit housing provider serving low-to-moderate income families. She also previously served as District 7 representative on the Muscogee County School District Board of Education, the Columbus Transportation Improvement Committee, the Georgia Department of Labor Workforce Investment Board, the Board of Historic and Architectural Review, the Columbus Technical College Board of Directors and the West Central Georgia Hospital Foundation. Secretary Williams holds a degree in political science and public administration from Troy University. Her current term will expire in April 2028.
The 14-member State Transportation Board determines policy and governs the Georgia Department of Transportation. Each member is elected by a caucus of Georgia General Assembly members from their specific congressional district. Board members serve staggered, five-year terms.
