Geisinger hospitals recognized as nation’s best

DANVILLE, Pa. - Four Geisinger hospitals have been recognized for high performance in the 2026-2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital rankings, with two hospitals ranking among the top in the state. Of the 4,400 hospitals evaluated, 43% received any kind of award and only 16% earned a numerical ranking in a state, metro area or medical specialty.

The hospitals list includes Geisinger Medical Center, Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and Geisinger Community Medical Center. Each facility was recognized for various high-performing procedures and conditions. In addition to these honors, Geisinger Wyoming Valley was ranked the No. 1 best hospital in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton metropolitan area, as well as tying for the No. 18 spot overall in the state of Pennsylvania. Geisinger Medical Center tied for the No. 11 spot overall in the state.

The hospitals were recognized for honors in the following specialties:

• Geisinger Community Medical Center (Scranton): Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); diabetes; pneumonia

• Geisinger Lewistown Hospital: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); heart failure; pneumonia

• Geisinger Medical Center (Danville): Aortic valve surgery; back surgery (spinal fusion); chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); ear, nose and throat surgery; gynecological cancer surgery; heart arrhythmia; heart attack; heart bypass surgery; hip fracture; kidney failure; leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma; lung cancer surgery; pacemaker implantation; pneumonia; stroke; transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

• Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (Wilkes-Barre): Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); diabetes; heart attack; heart failure; hip replacement; knee replacement; leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma; lung cancer surgery; pneumonia; stroke; transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

U.S. News & World Report bases its Best Hospitals rankings on components such as patient outcomes, overall patient experience, hospital staffing and other factors. The Procedures & Conditions ratings are based on objective quality measures.
