Fairfield Fire Department Selected for National Wildfire Protection Program

The Fairfield Fire Department (FFD) is proud to announce its selection for the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Assistance Program, led by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). This nationally recognized program equips local fire departments with expert support to create or enhance wildfire protection strategies tailored to their communities.

Funded by the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA through the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grant Program, this initiative will allow FFD to develop a robust, community-driven plan to protect homes, natural spaces, and infrastructure from wildfire threats.

The CWPP process involves public engagement, cross-agency collaboration, and practical action planning. With wildfire risks on the rise-especially in Fairfield's expanding wildland-urban interface-this program will unify efforts citywide, including the recently integrated Cordelia Fire Protection District.

Activities will include:

  • Community meeting
  • A CWPP Evaluation Tabletop Exercise
  • A comprehensive plan by July 31, 2026
