In preparation for upcoming rain, the City of Chula Vista encourages residents to take proactive steps to protect their homes and property by picking up free sandbags.
Chula Vista residents may obtain up to 10 free sandbags per household, while supplies last. Distribution will take place at the City's Public Works Facility, located at 1800 Maxwell Road, on Tuesday, December 23, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Proof of Chula Vista residency is required, and sandbags will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Sandbags will not be available at any Chula Vista Fire Station.
Residents are reminded to use caution during wet weather. If windshield wipers are in use, headlights must also be turned on, and drivers should never attempt to travel through flooded roadways. Downed trees or other storm-related issues may be reported through the City's ACT system or by calling Public Works at (619) 397-6000. For emergencies, residents should call 9-1-1.
For additional storm preparedness tips, including instructions on proper sandbag placement, residents are encouraged to visit the City's Severe Winter Weather webpage.
