Man Out on Bond for Robbery Now Charged with Attempted Homicide

A Nashville man free on $40,000 bond from his October 6th arrest for aggravated robbery is once again behind bars, this time for a noon shooting on October 18th in the busy intersection of 46th Avenue North and Charlotte Avenue that critically injured a teen.

Outstanding investigation by Specialized Investigations Division detectives led to the identification of James Claybrooks, 22, as the man driving the suspect car that had followed the victims as they traveled on Charlotte Avenue in a Ford Focus. A passenger in Claybrooks' vehicle opened fire on the Ford as both cars traveled through the intersection at 46th Avenue North. The 23-year-old female driver of the Ford Focus was not injured. Her rear male passenger, age 18, was the apparent target and he was critically injured. The suspect car later traveled into Lebanon where an LPR hit greatly furthered the investigation. Detectives are pursuing strong leads regarding the shooter.

Claybrooks is charged with two counts of attempted criminal homicide, reckless endangerment, and aggravated reckless driving. He is currently being held in lieu of $80,000 bond. Claybrooks' earlier arrest for aggravated robbery stems from an August 1st hold-up at CVS Pharmacy, 2516 Gallatin Avenue, in which he is alleged to be one of three masked men who took several types of medication before fleeing the store.
