POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Central Hudson restored power to more than 42,000 customers who were impacted by Thursday evening's severe thunderstorms that interrupted electric service to more than 46,000 total customers. As of 9 a.m. today, approximately 4,000 customers remained without power, with nearly all of those outages located in Dutchess County.
"Our crews worked throughout the night and will continue to work throughout today until every customer has their power restored," said Eric Kiszkiel, Vice President of Operations and Safety at Central Hudson. "We know how critical electric service is to our customers, and we thank them for their understanding as we work to make repairs as safely and efficiently as possible. With favorable weather conditions and a field workforce of nearly 500 line and line clearance workers, we expect to have our restoration efforts completed by the end of the day today."
Beginning at 10 a.m., Central Hudson will distribute dry ice and bottled water for customers impacted by the storm at Topps Friendly Markets - 6726 Route 9, Rhinebeck.
Residents are advised to exercise an abundance of caution around downed power lines by staying at least 30 feet away and remember that downed lines can become entangled and hidden in fallen limbs. Residents should also remember to assume that any downed power lines are live.
