OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA TO MALAYSIA 15 - 17 APRIL 2026
Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese will undertake an official visit to Malaysia from 15 to 17 April 2026. Prime Minister Albanese will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Penny Wong, and senior government officials. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be accorded an Official Welcoming Ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex on 16 April 2026 followed by a restricted meeting with Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. A Joint Statement on Energy Security is also expected to be issued following the meeting.
Apart from bilateral matters such as trade and investment, and collaboration in renewable energy and green technology, both Prime Ministers are expected to discuss the conflict in West Asia and the energy crisis arising from it and its implications globally, and for Malaysia and Australia in particular. In this context, both leaders are expected to intensify diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and ensure the continuity of global trade routes and energy supply chains that are critical to the well-being of their peoples.
Both leaders will also witness an exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Strategic Halal Red Meat Partnership between the Government of Malaysia and the Government of Australia represented by the Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia (JAKIM) and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry of Australia (DAFF). An official luncheon in honour of Prime Minister Albanese will also be held at the Seri Perdana Complex.
Australia remains an important trading partner for Malaysia. In 2025, Malaysia and Australia ranked as each other's 12th largest trading partners Total bilateral trade in 2025 amounted to RM78.63 billion (USD18.38 billion), with exports and imports valued at RM48.64 billion (USD11.37 billion) and RM29.99 billion (USD7 billion) respectively.
Both Malaysia and Australia elevated relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in 2021, providing the framework to explore new areas of cooperation under the CSP's three pillars: economic prosperity, society and technology, and defence and regional security.
