Passenger critically injured in Gresham crash

Officers are investigating a single-vehicle traffic crash that critically injured a passenger in the vehicle. Shortly before 1:00 am on October 17 officers were responding to a disturbance in downtown Gresham when they observed a vehicle being driven recklessly and nearly striking pedestrians. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle near NE Main Street and E Powell Boulevard, but the driver fled. Officers opted not to pursue the vehicle.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle crashed on SE Roberts Avenue between SE 9th Street and SE Regner Road. Officers arrested the driver as he attempted to flee on foot. A passenger in the car was critically injured and transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver was also transported to the hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life threatening.

Speed and impairment are likely factors in this crash. Due to the severity of the passenger's injuries, the Vehicular Crimes Team was activated to investigate the crash. Due to the driver's injuries and the ongoing investigation, information regarding criminal charges is not available at this time.
