DART Prepares for Inclement Weather to Ensure Passenger Safety

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is proactively preparing for the potential impact of inclement weather to ensure the safety and comfort of our passengers. With forecasts predicting the possibility of ice and snow this week, DART is taking comprehensive measures to maintain operations and support riders during extreme weather conditions.

DART's priority is the safety of our riders and employees. In preparation for the cold weather, DART is:

  • Maintaining Generators: Ensuring all facility generators are operational to provide power during potential outages.
  • Treating Walkways: Prioritizing the treatment of walkways at bus and train stations to prevent slipping hazards.
  • Weatherizing Vehicles and Train Switches: Conducting ongoing maintenance to protect equipment from freezing conditions.

Service updates and contingency plans may impact daily operations, including delays or disruptions. For example, if the catenary system is affected, DART will establish bus shuttles to aid in transporting passengers safely. To support riders during freezing temperatures, DART has extended the hours at Transit Centers from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. CST to provide a warm and safe environment for passengers.

"Our priority is to provide safe transportation to all of our riders," said Benard Jackson (Sr. EVP and Chief Operations Officer). "We are committed to ensuring our passengers have access to reliable information and safe environments, even in challenging weather conditions."

DART encourages all riders to sign up for Rider Alerts and download the GoPass App for real-time updates on service changes, detours, and weather-related notifications. The GoPass App also helps riders locate nearby warming stations and other essential resources during inclement weather.
