MoSPI signs MoU with Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Punjab for undertaking a Research Study


Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Punjab for undertaking a Research Study on development of a Predictive and Analytical Framework for Monthly Consumption Expenditures in India.
The signing ceremony was graced by Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI. Prof. Padmakumar Nair, Vice Chancellor, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology and Shri R. Rajesh, Additional Director General, Capacity Development Division, MoSPI signed the MoU. Dr. Chandramani Sharma, Additional Director General, Coordination and Quality Control Division (CQCD), MoSPI and Dr. Sourav Chakrabortty, Deputy Director General, Research and Analysis Division (RAD), MoSPI were also present.
This collaboration aims to leverage the Household Consumption Expenditure (HCES) data by estimating Monthly Per Capita Consumption Expenditure (MPCE) at national and state levels, analysing household consumption patterns, and generating evidence for poverty estimation and broader economic planning. This is yet another initiative on the innovative use of AI in Official Statistics and highlights growing collaboration between MoSPI and academic institutions for research.
