Beyond the Delivery Window: How The Home Depot is Ending the Waiting Game for Pros

The Home Depot will launch the industry's first real-time delivery tracker for big and bulky orders, as the first major retailer to offer this level of tracking precision for the delivery of building materials. Expected by the end of the first quarter of 2026, this new feature will help Pro customers better plan complex projects by providing minute-by-minute updates.

Seamless Tracking for Every Shipment

Direct job site delivery is essential for Pros tackling multiple time-sensitive projects. Once available on mobile devices and homedepot.com, the tool will show customers exactly where their order is, including visibility into the truck route and remaining stops until arriving right at the job site. Pros will be able to access the near-real-time location of materials like 80-pound bags of concrete, bunks of lumber and drywall. That's less time waiting, and more time coordinating subcontractors, managing inventory and keeping multi-million-dollar projects on deadline.

Last-mile logistics for large, flatbed deliveries have been a persistent blind spot for retailers delivering building materials to Pros. The Home Depot is focused on removing friction at every step... we know that every minute counts on a busy job site.

How It Works

This level of live tracking is powered by The Home Depot driver HandheldTM application, which transmits real-time GPS data directly from the delivery truck to pinpoint the truck's location and progress on a live map.

  • An SMS notification is sent, alerting customers their order is on the way
  • Through the active, manageable experience, users can:
    • Track their delivery driver's live location on a map
    • See the number of stops remaining
    • View the items included in their order
    • Plan their day using enroute turn-by-turn updates
  • A final screen confirms the time of arrival, ensuring customers are prepared when their order arrives

Real-time tracking is already live today for customers ordering large appliances. Future updates will also bring live tracking to iPhone and Android lock screens, allowing users to stay informed without unlocking their phones.
