Cobb and Fulton Counties…
Saturday, Sunday Daytime Lane Closures on I-285 in Smyrna for Bridge Rehab Project
ATLANTA - Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will begin maintenance work on the I-285 over the Chattahoochee River bridge in Cobb and Fulton counties this weekend.
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, one right lane will be closed on I-285 between Riverside Drive and the I-285/I-75 interchange from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. Roadway signs and message boards will alert drivers of the closures in advance so that alternative routes and/or extra travel time can be planned.
This maintenance project will repair and/or replace the bridge deck overlay, edge beams, other elements of the substructure and superstructure and also address settlement issues at the abutments.
This $9.7 million project is scheduled for completion in late fall 2027.
As always, motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds in the work zone. Motorists are also encouraged to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia's state and federal highways.
