Reflecting on Lincoln’s Enduring Mission: News Tribune Editorial
Lincoln University of Missouri President John B. Moseley wrote an editorial for the Jefferson City News Tribune highlighting the university's commitment to educational excellence.
In a recent Jefferson City News Tribune editorial titled, "Lincoln maintains commitment to education through eras," President John Moseley reflects on Lincoln University's founding and its enduring commitment to education in the face of historic resistance.
Published during Black History Month, he reminds readers that "freedom without the knowledge to protect it is extremely fragile," tracing how Lincoln was established in 1866 to meet the urgent need to educate freed Black Missourians at a time when teaching Black people had only recently been illegal in Missouri.
Moseley highlights how Lincoln has adapted and endured through skepticism and change, remaining grounded in its founding purpose while expanding access to students from across the nation and around the world.
"History, including Black history, is not confined to the past for us to simply study," Moseley said. "It is an experience we are still writing every day."
