Astris AI: Bringing Lockheed Martin's Trusted Innovation to New Industries

October 27, 2025

When you think of Lockheed Martin, images of advanced fighter jets and helicopters, space exploration systems, and precision missiles probably come to mind. But behind the scenes, the company has also been building one of the most powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms in the defense industry. This turnkey AI platform is designed to process massive amounts of data securely, help decision-makers act faster, and keep complex systems operating with precision.

The cutting-edge internal capability has powered Lockheed Martin's enterprise and missions for years. Now, through the launch of Astris AI, one of Lockheed Martin Evolve's newest subsidiaries, those same tools, platforms, and expertise are being made available to customers across defense, aerospace, finance, healthcare, energy, and manufacturing.

"Lockheed Martin's AI ecosystem has consistently pushed the boundaries of what's possible in defense," said Greg Forrest, vice president of AI Foundations and Commercialization at Lockheed Martin. "So instead of keeping these innovations in-house, we're sharing them with our industry partners. We're all facing similar challenges, and by working together with a foundation of responsible AI, we can accelerate critical solutions to deliver real-world results."

Astris AI provides customers with a comprehensive suite of solutions, including:

  1. Astris AI Factory Platform: A secure, end-to-end environment to build, deploy, and manage AI at scale - spanning the edge, on-premises, and cloud.
  2. Generative AI and Agent Development Tools: Frameworks (Genesis and Navigator) that enable organizations to create intelligent, mission-ready agents powered by open-weight models and customer data.
  3. MLOps and Model Governance: A full lifecycle system (Panel) that ensures models are trained, versioned, monitored, and retrained securely and efficiently.
  4. Engineering and Consulting Services: Deep technical and domain expertise to help customers identify high-value use cases, accelerate deployment, and operationalize AI within mission and enterprise environments.
  5. Defense-Grade Security and Compliance: Built-in governance, provenance, and access controls designed for classified and high-assurance environments.
  6. Open and Modular Architecture: Works seamlessly with leading technology partners to integrate into existing enterprise and mission systems.

Together, these capabilities allow customers to operationalize AI faster, with greater trust, transparency, and control-turning innovation into real mission outcomes.

From Internal Innovation to Commercial Capability

Lockheed Martin announced the formation of Astris AI in December of 2024, representing a significant shift in how the company was thinking about the future of AI. Since then, Astris AI has collaborated with companies like Dell Technologies, HPE and Oracle Cloud. X-Bow, an advanced manufacturing solid rocket motor company, will be the first to adopt newly enabled capabilities within the Astris AI Factory.

"We're just beginning to unlock the full potential of Astris AI and gaining strong traction with customers in industries that demand trust and precision, as well as globally recognized brands and household names who recognize the transformative value we bring," said Adam Broecker, vice president of Lockheed Martin Evolve and Chairman of the Board of Astris AI. "We're actively deepening relationships and opening new conversations every week, and the momentum is only growing. All these new learnings from Astris AI customers build the foundation of what AI tools we will use in the future."

The Astris AI Factory has accelerated innovations at Lockheed Martin, with 75,000 employees leveraging its Navigator secure chat capabilities. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 16,000 AI Agents were built via Genesis, with employees using both Generative AI and MLOps to drive impact across finance, engineering, business development, and supply chain.

A clear example of the growing power and trust in what AI models can offer is Lockheed Martin's recent integration of Llama open source models from Meta into its AI Factory. The Skunk Works® team embedded Llama into their AI pipeline to support flight simulation and training for U.S. and allied pilots, enabling engineers to rapidly grasp the inner workings of the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) and accelerating development in areas where they had limited prior expertise. Astris AI is now bringing this capability to all industries: proven, high-performance language models built for organizations that demand speed and precision.

The Future of Astris AI: Scaling AI Responsibly

AI is reshaping industries but for many organizations, adoption relies on trust and security. That's where Astris AI is uniquely positioned.

"Astris AI is not just a promise of what's to come. It's the realization of what has already been proven," said Mr. Broecker. "By commercializing Lockheed Martin's mission-tested AI capabilities, successful for many years in the most demanding environments, Astris AI brings security, modularity, and mission-ready support to the forefront of innovation. This is the future, built on a legacy of trust, and ready to serve the world today."

Supported by Lockheed Martin's unparalleled digital and AI expertise, Astris AI is committed to upholding the highest standards of security, ethics, and integrity in every solution it delivers. It's part of Lockheed Martin's LMEvolve portfolio, an organization that makes strategic investments to create and scale commercial businesses designed to accelerate innovation across the defense industrial base.

Looking forward, Astris AI will continue to accelerate beyond defense into critical sectors. It won't just provide tools - it will help shape the future of responsible AI adoption in some of the most complex industries in the world.
