Jenkins Avenue Traffic Changes occur on Monday as progress to project continues

April 3, 2026

Beginning 4/6/26, Silver Star Construction will shift two-way traffic on Jenkins Avenue eastward from the existing lanes to the adjacent newly constructed future northbound lanes, between Lindsay Street and Reaves Park Road.

This change marks the substantial completion of Phase 2 and start of Phase 3 on the Jenkins Avenue Widening Project. During Phase 3, crews will remove the existing lanes and reconstruct the new future southbound lanes on the west half of Jenkins Avenue between Lindsay Street and Reaves Park Road. The project - consisting of 8 phases - is expected to be completed, in full, in Spring 2027 and updates will continue to be made for the community as it progresses at Normanok.gov.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use caution when traveling through the construction area. Traffic control signage will be in place to help guide motorists through the work zone.

Questions about the project may be directed to Tim Miles, City Engineer, at 405-366-5454.

History of the Project

On April 2, 2019, the citizens of Norman voted in favor of a Bond Issue to finance the local share of nineteen transportation improvement projects. The Jenkins Avenue Project from the City of Norman's 2019 transportation Bond Program is an existing 4-lane divided roadway from Imhoff Road to Constitution Street and a 2-lane roadway north of Constitution Street to south of Lindsey Street.

The scope of work is to improve Jenkins Ave. from Imhoff Rd. to Lindsey St. The typical section will be a divided 4-lane section with landscaped median along with an ADA compliant 10-foot wide multi-use trail on the east side and an 8-foot wide sidewalk on the west side of Jenkins Ave. These corridor improvements promote safety enhancements for pedestrians and vehicles, alleviates drainage deficiencies in the existing system, and realigns Constitution St. with Imhoff Rd. to promote route connectivity.

Project Goals:

  • Improve existing storm drain infrastructure.
  • Improve bike/PED facilities to enhance pedestrian safety.
  • Improve the corridor's traffic safety, capacity and access management.
