U-Haul Offers 30 Days of Free Storage in Southern Illinois Ahead of Floods

CARBONDALE, Ill. and CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (April 8, 2025) - U-Haul^® Company of Illinois has made its stores in Carbondale available to offer 30 days of free self-storage and U-Box^® container usage to residents in the Carbondale-Marion metro area who stand to be impacted by expected flooding.

Although rain has moved out of the region, the Ohio River and Big Muddy River are both forecasted to crest later this week, which would lead to the flooding of residential properties in many communities.

An hour's drive southwest of the expected flooding in southern Illinois, Cape Girardeau and surrounding cities are in clean-up mode after another round of tornadoes and flash flooding struck eastern Missouri in recent days.

U-Haul Company of Missouri announced that its Cape Girardeau store, which had been offering a month of free self-storage from the severe weather that affected many states in mid-March, would continue to extend its disaster relief program to assist victims in their recovery needs from the latest storms.

Access to dry and secure self-storage rooms and portable storage containers can be essential for communities preparing for a disaster, as well as during the recovery process.

The 30 days free offer applies to new self-storage and U-Box rentals and is based on availability. The U-Box portable container offer is for on-site storage at Company facilities.
