Made in America: Trump Signs Ernst Bill to Secure Supply Chains and Boost Manufacturing

WASHINGTON - This week President Donald Trump signed U.S. Senator Joni Ernst's (R-Iowa) bipartisan Critical Infrastructure Manufacturing Feasibility Act into law, taking a step toward securing America's supply chains, reducing dependence on foreign adversaries, and identifying new manufacturing opportunities in rural America.

The law directs the Secretary of Commerce to examine critical products currently imported into the United States and identify opportunities to manufacture those goods domestically, including in rural communities and industrial parks.

"When it comes to our national security, we cannot afford to depend on foreign adversaries for the critical goods that keep America running," said Senator Ernst. "President Trump understands that Made in America should be the norm, not the exception, and I am grateful he signed my bipartisan bill into law. Iowa has the talent, expertise, and resources to help bring critical manufacturing back to America. This is an important step toward securing our supply chains, strengthening our national security, and bringing more opportunities to rural America."

Ernst introduced the legislation alongside Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), while Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) led the companion legislation in the House. The bill passed both chambers with bipartisan support, and the President signed it into law this week.

"Supply chains are critical to global competitiveness and our national security,"?said Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Delaware). "I'm proud to see this bipartisan legislation become law to help identify where we are over-reliant on foreign imports for critical infrastructure and explore how we can bring that manufacturing back to the United States. These investments will strengthen domestic production, secure our supply chains, and support good-paying jobs right here at home."

"America cannot continue outsourcing the production of critical goods and good-paying manufacturing jobs to foreign adversaries. We must strengthen our domestic manufacturing, secure our supply chains, and ensure America can produce the essential materials our nation depends on," said Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa). "This legislation creates a roadmap to bring manufacturing back and create new good paying jobs for Iowans. I'm proud to have led this legislation to put American jobs first and am grateful it was signed into law."

The legislation builds on Ernst's efforts to strengthen domestic production, support American manufacturers, and safeguard critical supply chains from foreign adversaries.
