WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement after meeting with Andrew T. Duva, President Trump's nominee to be Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division:
"This Administration shows no willingness to abide by the rule of law. As DOJ leadership exhibits no remorse for weaponizing our justice system, the American people are louder than ever in demanding a Justice Department that puts the Constitution before any president.
"As President Trump continues to wreak havoc on my home state with illegal scare tactics, his Administration is gutting resources meant to keep us safe-including from the Criminal Division. I suspect Mr. Duva will be presented with choices that put the President's wishes at odds with what is best for our country and its safety. We need appointees willing to say 'no' to unlawful directives.
"I look forward to hearing more from Mr. Duva at his hearing."
