National Science Appreciation Day

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

National Science Appreciation Day

WHEREAS, on March 26, 1953, American medical scientist, Dr. Jonas Salk, announced that he successfully developed the polio vaccine in which he revolutionized the science industry and public health; and

WHEREAS, National Science Appreciation Day celebrates advancements in health and digital technology and drives innovation for global challenges crucial for fostering critical thinking and empirical decision-making; and

WHEREAS, National Science Appreciation Day offers an opportunity to recognize the essential contributions of scientists in technology, energy, manufacturing, and aerospace studies across the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, over 36 million Americans hold jobs within the science and engineering sectors of the workforce;

WHEREAS, National Science Appreciation Day inspires youth to pursue science education, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize March 26, 2026, as NATIONAL SCIENCE APPRECIATION DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
