Premier is troubled that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) may once again carry forward an approach seen in recent years in the Inpatient Prospective Payment System rule-an insufficient payment update. CMS' proposal fails to recognize the rising costs and operational realities hospitals face and come as providers continue to manage inflation, workforce shortages, and growing demand for care. Premier urges CMS to finalize an update that allows hospitals to maintain essential inpatient services and patient access.
