Overnight road treatment plan for east-central Georgia
Augusta, Ga. - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will work through the night to treat roads impacted by winter weather on Friday.
Bobby Jones Expressway and Interstate 20 are our highest priorities. Georgia DOT crews will apply an additional layer of brine to all lane miles of Bobby Jones Expressway and I-20 in our district. Brine is a solution of salt and water used to decrease the probability of freezing under certain conditions.
In addition, plow teams will continue working on I-20 from mile marker 84 to mile marker 138 to clear snow from the shoulder.
Plow teams will also work to push back snow and put out salt on various state routes across the district, mainly focusing on routes in Lincoln, Wilkes, and Oglethorpe Counties.
A Georgia DOT contractor will work to apply an additional layer of brine to all state routes in Newton, Jasper, Morgan, Greene, Oglethorpe, and Taliaferro Counties.
Crews based out of our Dublin area office will be in Hancock and Putnam Counties putting out salt on various state routes.
Georgia DOT continues to monitor the weather and is prepared to change treatment plans as needed.
As of 8 p.m. Friday, all state routes in District 2 (east-central Georgia) are passable.
Travel is strongly discouraged overnight, as some roads could become icy if temperatures fall below freezing. If a road looks wet, assume it's icy and proceed accordingly. Please continue limiting all non-essential travel until we have determined roads are clear. If you must travel, give Georgia DOT crews room and space to help ensure they can safely do their jobs.
