Public Comments Needed on Canton's Master Plan

In accordance with the Michigan Planning Enabling Act, a draft of Canton's Master Plan is now available for viewing and public comments. A Master Plan is the long-range policy document that guides community leaders when making land use and development decisions. It also serves as the legal basis for zoning regulations.

After extensive community outreach and discussions with the Planning Commission and Township Board, Canton's Planning Division staff and McKenna planning consultants drafted Canton's Vision for Tomorrow: A Comprehensive Community Master Plan document. The draft plan proposes new and innovative ideas related to housing, transportation, commercial corridors, environmental sustainability and preservation, and future land uses that will shape the community for the next 5 - 10 years.

Comments on the draft will be accepted from January 15 - March 19. You can view the draft online at www.cantonmi.gov/masterplan. Hard copies are also available at the Planning Services office located on the second floor of Canton's Administration Building. Comments may be summited via email to [email protected] or mailed to Planning Services at 1150 Canton Center Road, Canton MI, 48188.

Adoption of the Master Plan is a multi-step process. For more information visit www.cantonmi.gov/masterplan or call 734/394-5170.
