Brampton Fire and Emergency Services Partners with Enbridge Gas to Improve Fire and Carbon Monoxide Safety

BRAMPTON, ON (November 20, 2024) - Yesterday, Brampton Fire and E mergency Services (BFES) announced a partnership with Enbridge Gas to advance fire and carbon monoxide safety in Brampton homes, aiming to reduce fire-related and carbon monoxide-related deaths to zero through the Safe Community Project Zero initiative.

​BFES received 534 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through Safe Community Project Zero, a public safety initiative supported by the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC). The project will distribute over 14,500 alarms to residents in 75 communities across Ontario, strengthening safety awareness and equipping residents with essential early warning systems.

This year, Enbridge Gas invested $450,000 in Safe Community Project Zero. Over the past 16 years, the program has provided more than 101,000 alarms to Ontario fire departments.

Properly installed and maintained smoke and carbon monoxide alarms provide an early warning system essential for safely escaping a house fire or carbon monoxide exposure. Often referred to as "the silent killer," carbon monoxide is a toxic, odourless gas produced by incomplete combustion of many types of common fuels.

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services encourages all residents to test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly and to replace any outdated devices. Working alarms are critical to ensuring early detection and safe evacuation in the event of an emergency. Together with Enbridge Gas, BFES is proud to support initiatives like Safe Community Project Zero bringing greater safety resources to homes across Brampton.
