On January 30, the Chinese Embassy in Guyana held the 2026 Chinese Spring Festival Reception. H.E. Chinese Ambassador Yang Yang and Hon. Brigadier (Ret'd) Mark Anthony Phillips, Prime Minister Performing the Functions of President of Guyana, addressed the Reception. Over 400 guests, including cabinet ministers and representatives from the Chinese community and Chinese enterprises in Guyana attended the event. H.E. Guyanese President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who was on an overseas visit, sent a video message extending his festive greetings to the Chinese government and people.
In her speech, Ambassador Yang conveyed New Year wishes to all present, reviewed the remarkable achievements in advancing Chinese modernization in 2025, and fully recognized the significant contributions made by overseas Chinese in strengthening China-Guyana relations. She reaffirmed the commitment to implementing the important consensus reached by the two Presidents, further advancing the Five Programs for Building a China-LAC Community with a Shared Future, and delivering greater benefits to the two peoples.
Prime Minister Performing the Functions of President Phillips highly commended the outstanding contributions of the Chinese community to Guyana's socio-economic development and sincerely wished the Chinese people good health, happiness, and continued success in the Year of the Horse.
Guests at the event also enjoyed captivating cultural performances.
