HTNYS elects 2026 officers and new board members

Muhammed Javed, MD, chairman, UAHS board of directors, and chair, HTNYS.

NEW YORK - The Healthcare Trustees of New York State's (HTNYS) board of governors has announced its 2026 officers and four new board members. Muhammed Javed, MD, chairman of Upper Allegheny Health System (UAHS) Board has been elected chair of HTNYS for 2026. Dr. Javed previously served as HTNYS vice chair in 2025.

The board elected the following officers to serve a second one-year term:

  • Chair: Muhammed Javed, MD, Olean General Hospital, and trustee, Kaleida Health
  • Vice Chair: Laurence Smith, immediate past chair, White Plains Hospital, and trustee, Montefiore Health System
  • Secretary: Todd Reinglass, vice chair, SBH Health System
  • Immediate past chair: Sharon Hanson, secretary and immediate past chair, Erie County Medical Center

The board also elected four new members to serve three-year terms:

  • Karen Callanan, Esq., trustee, Cayuga Health System (Centralus Health)
  • Don Harris, PhD, MBA, trustee, O'Connor Hospital (Bassett Healthcare Network)
  • Kevin J. Plunkett, Esq., chair Northwell's Phelps Hospital
  • Dallas P. Sutton, MBA, board member, secretary, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and North Star Health Alliance

The HTNYS board of governors provides strategic guidance to direct HTNYS' activities and programs aimed at strengthening New York's healthcare system through improved leadership and involvement by healthcare trustees. We are grateful for their dedication and support.

Dr. Javed is a board-certified nephrologist who has practiced in both the Bradford and Olean communities for over 30 years. He's currently serving as the medical director for dialysis units, DaVita Healthcare in Bradford and Marie Lorenz Dialysis Unit in Olean. Dr. Javed also is very active in the local communities having served on the board of directors for the YMCA of the Twin Tiers and Olean General Hospital Foundation as well as currently serving as the chairman of the UAHS board of directors. He earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed his nephrology fellowship at SUNY Downstate.
