Conference of Italian Consuls worldwide to begin tomorrow, opened by Ministers Tajani and Piantedosi

Tomorrow, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani will open at the Farnesina the Conference of Italian Consuls worldwide, the main event dedicated to Italy's consular network and assistance for the more than 7 million Italian citizens residing abroad. This will be the first Conference of Italian Consuls to be held in eight years: the previous edition took place in 2018. The first day of proceedings, on 12 June, will include an inaugural session with the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, and representatives from the private sector, including Chief Executive Officers and senior managers from ITA Airways, Poste Italiane and Trenitalia.

The sessions will focus on the main challenges facing the consular network: services for citizens, digital innovation, assistance to Italian nationals abroad, citizenship, documentation, civil status and emergency management. Specific attention will be devoted to new initiatives aimed at making services for Italians abroad more modern, accessible and efficient. The Italian Foreign Ministry's new technological tools will also be at the centre of discussions, including the new Fast-It portal, already used by 2.7 million Italians, and the future related app. Proceedings will continue behind closed doors on Saturday 13 June.

The Conference will be attended by 172 participants, including Consuls General, Consuls, consular coordinators and Heads of Consular Offices at Embassies, representing a large part of Italy's consular network worldwide. A delegation of Honorary Consuls will also take part, with some attending in person and others joining via videoconference. In 2025, Italy's consular network issued more than half a million passports, 202,026 Electronic Identity Cards (+18% compared with the previous year), and carried out 4,085 consular assistance interventions, coordinating 125 medical repatriations.
