After earning an Electronics and Communications Engineering degree from the West Bengal University of Technology in 2009, Mimoh Das embarked on an exciting journey in the corporate IT world. He joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where he developed his skills in the fast-paced technology sector. His journey soon led him to Kaiser Permanente, one of TCS's esteemed clients, where he spent nine years advancing into IT leadership positions. In 2021, he was appointed Head of IT at Unison, a role that seemed to be the pinnacle of his career-until fate took an unexpected turn. In December 2023, Mimoh was laid off.
Many would have succumbed to doubt in the face of uncertainty, but Mimoh's spirit remained unbroken. "Being unemployed is an incredibly tough experience," he reflects. "There are countless services that claim to help you land a job, but the fees add up quickly, and when you're not earning, it's hard to justify the cost. Instead of letting this time overwhelm me, I chose to look inward and reflect on my career's direction."
This period of self-reflection became a defining moment for Mimoh. He realized a powerful truth: to remain relevant and future-proof, he needed to learn more about identity and cybersecurity. That's when he discovered the What's Next by Okta Learning Grant Program - a transformative opportunity to reignite his passion and provide a clear path forward.
"The moment I found out about the What's Next program, I knew it was exactly what I needed," Mimoh says enthusiastically. "Here was a company offering free training and certification exams - something so rare in today's world. It was a gift, and I knew I had to seize it."
For Mimoh, the program was not just a way to occupy his time; it was a lifeline. "During my unemployment, the What's Next program gave me something constructive to focus on. Today, regardless of your IT background, you must understand cybersecurity. This program helped me survive a tough period, thrive, and prepare for the future."
What Mimoh found remarkable about the What's Next program was how it encouraged growth at every level. "It's about more than just skill-building," he explains. "This program fosters resilience, supports lifelong learning, and sparks innovation. It actively works to close the cybersecurity skills gap and creates an environment where everyone can rise and lead, regardless of background. It was exactly the kind of setting I needed to find a new direction and purpose in my career."
That new direction led Mimoh to an incredible opportunity as the Vice President of IT and Systems at the San Francisco SPCA. Mimoh credits Okta's What's Next program as crucial to his career resurgence. "The skills I gained from Okta were invaluable. My knowledge of Okta and automation helped me stand out during interviews. I was often asked about my strategies, the tech stacks I had worked with, and how I approached identity and access management. Being Okta Certified also set me apart, especially in a competitive job market where hundreds of candidates vie for the same roles."
Mimoh's story is a testament to the power of growth, resilience, and opportunities at the right time. He is living proof that despite adversity, great things are possible with determination and the right resources. Mimoh remarks, "In today's challenging job market, having a respected certification gives you the edge you need to differentiate yourself. Thanks to Okta, I found my path forward. This program truly changed my life."
