The family of the late John Jones, friends, social service providers, representatives of Keystar Construction, and City officials were on hand this morning for the ribbon cutting of the John Jones Navigation Center on College Road.
The center will provide shelter for about 150 people and on-site access to services that help people return to the mainstream.
The new facility is named for the late Assistant City Manager John Jones, who, in the early 2000s, responded to a growing issue of homeless individuals camping on private and public property. Working with local agencies, he created the Keys Overnight Temporary Shelter, or KOTS.
Jones's daughter, Dr. Donna Jones, and his son, Phillip Jones, cut the ribbon.
