Representative Schmidt Introduces Three Legislative Measures

COLUMBUS-State Representative Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) recently introduced three pieces of legislation that increase public safety, defend the sanctity of life, and combat human trafficking.

House Bill 753 will require the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to administer all driver's exams in English in order to increase safety on Ohio roadways by ensuring that all drivers fully understand traffic laws and the information necessary to operate a vehicle responsibly and legally.

"It's important that Ohio drivers understand English so they can understand traffic laws, read road signs, and effectively interact with law enforcement," said Schmidt.

Under House Bill 754, if a fetal heartbeat is detected, a certificate of life must be filed. The bill will also require a certificate of death to be filed for all fetal deaths. This legislation aims to further defend and honor the sanctity of life beginning in the womb.

"Life begins in the womb, and we must acknowledge that," said Schmidt.

Finally, House Bill 744 clarifies which professionals may legally perform massage therapy in Ohio, helping combat human trafficking. Under the bill, massage therapists must hold a current, valid license issued by the State Medical Board of Ohio to practice massage therapy.

"This bill will directly combat human trafficking by strengthening accountability and targeting bad actors within the massage therapy industry," said Schmidt.

All three pieces of legislation await a committee assignment.
