House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee Chair John Carter (R-Texas) released the following statements:
"America's strength starts with the people who wear the uniform and the families who stand behind them," Chairwoman McClain said. "We owe them the care they earned, the homes they deserve, and the facilities they need to stay ready for the threats ahead. House Republicans are making that commitment real."
"This bill reflects our nation's enduring responsibility to support the service members and veterans who have sacrificed in defense of our freedoms," Rep. Carter said. "It makes critical investments in veterans' health care, mental health treatment, and community care programs so those who served our country can access the care and support they deserve. The legislation also prioritizes military families by improving housing, expanding childcare resources, and funding important infrastructure projects that strengthen readiness and quality of life. Today's vote marks another important step toward delivering these resources to our troops, veterans, and their families."
H.R. 8469 supports our veterans and military families by:
Fully funding veterans' health care and benefits programs.
Investing more than $2 billion in improvements to VA medical facilities and national cemeteries.
Providing $54.6 billion for the Toxic Exposures Fund to support veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances.
Strengthening mental health and suicide prevention programs for veterans.
Investing in military housing, barracks improvements, and child development centers for military families.
Fully funding the VA Community Care program to expand veterans' access to specialized care.
Protecting veterans' Second Amendment rights by preventing the VA from sharing veterans' information with the FBI without a judge's consent.
Prohibiting the VA from purchasing materials directly or indirectly from Communist China.
