The federal government shutdown threatens to disrupt the health programs and services that millions of patients rely on every day. These disruptions create real concern and stress for people living with chronic diseases and disabilities who depend on continued access to care, support programs, and research. In addition, critical extensions of health programs and
key pieces of health legislation remain stalled.
The National Health Council urges Congress to act swiftly to find solutions and advance policies that ensure access to affordable, high-quality care for all patients. As always, the NHC stands ready to serve as a resource to policymakers, educating them on patient-focused priorities related to access and affordability, research and innovation, and nonprofit sustainability.
