WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Tomorrow, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins will testify before the House Judiciary Committee in a hearing titled 'The Southern Poverty Law Center: Manufacturing Hate.' The hearing will focus on "the role that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has played in distorting civil rights policy in recent years. Additionally, the hearing will explore recently released information revealing that the SPLC has funneled money to some extremists, raising questions whether the SPLC has been artificially elevating the domestic extremist threat and misleading its donors."
Perkins will testify regarding the SPLC and the terrorist shooting it inspired on FRC. The shooter, Floyd Corkins, told FBI agents during an interrogation after the shooting that he found FRC through the SPLC's so-called 'hate map.' He was charged and convicted under DC's post-9/11 domestic terrorism law and sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty "to charges of committing an act of terrorism while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, and interstate transportation of a firearm and ammunition."
