Recognition of healthcare professions

24.10.2025

Question for written answer E-004200/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Elena Nevado del Campo (PPE), Pablo Arias Echeverría (PPE)

Some healthcare professions, such as chiropractic, are recognised by the World Health Organization and some Member States, but are not regulated uniformly across the European Union, creating legal uncertainty, fragmenting the single market, hindering the free movement of qualified professionals and causing potential risks to patient safety.

Recently, the European Commission presented the Single Market Strategy, whose priorities include removing barriers to the recognition of professional qualifications by extending automatic recognition schemes via common training frameworks.

Similarly, the Commission has launched the Union of Skills, which includes a skills portability initiative to enhance the recognition and acceptance of qualifications across the EU, independently of where they were acquired.

In view of the above, does the Commission intend to promote action to advance the recognition and harmonisation of these professions under the Single Market Strategy?
