Tonawanda Man Indicted for Homicide in Buffalo's Black Rock Neighborhood

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Jamere Davis, 21, of Town of Tonawanda, was arraigned this morning before State Supreme Court Justice Betty Calvo-Torres on an indictment charging him with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree (Class A-I felonies), one count of Robbery in the First Degree (Class B violent felony), one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C violent felony) and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence (Class E felony).

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Buffalo Police responded to a residence on the 100 block of Thompson Street after receiving a 911 call. The victim, 47-year-old Samuel Whisonant, was found dead in the living room of his home.

The defendant is accused of being a participant in the fatal shooting of the victim. It is further alleged that after the homicide, the defendant returned to the victim's home to remove a DVR box and a PlayStation game system. During the investigation, police allegedly recovered the missing items in a nearby field on Thompson Street, which were placed into evidence for further analysis.

Davis was held without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.

If convicted of the highest charge, Davisfaces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Keane commends Lieutenant Jonathan Pietrazak, Detective Adam Stephany, Detective Regina Weeks and Detective Rachel Isch of Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Frank A. Strano of the Homicide Bureau, Assistant District Attorney Daniel J. Morris and Assistant District Attorney Jared W. Waldron of the Felony Trials Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
