NHTSA and Honda Among Keynotes at SAE’s WCX-World Congress Experience in Detroit, April 14–16 chevron right

DETROIT, Mich. (March 18, 2026)- SAE International®, will host the 120th WCX-World Congress Experience April 14-16, 2026, at Huntington Place in Detroit. WCX brings together engineers, automakers, suppliers, and regulators at a time when the automotive industry is rapidly evolving around software-defined vehicles, artificial intelligence, and new propulsion technologies.

The annual conference is one of North America's largest gatherings focused on vehicle engineering, covering propulsion, software, automated systems, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. The event features technical sessions, technical poster sessions, executive panels, and an exhibition showcasing new mobility technologies and engineering solutions.

WCX Keynote Speakers Include:

  • Peter Simshauser, Chief Counsel, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
  • Gordon G. Chang, Author and Geopolitical Analyst
  • Dr. Sue Bai, Chief Engineer of the Sustainability & Business Development Unit, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
  • Nick Hegemier, Managing Director of Infrastructure, DriveOhio

Tuesday focuses on technical discussions about industry strategy, including sessions on propulsion, cybersecurity in connected vehicles, and the technical challenges of robotaxis and automated personal vehicles. Additionally, corporate race teams will share lessons learned with Artificial Intelligence and how it can be effectively applied to passenger vehicle engineering.

Wednesday features more in-depth technical panels exploring real-world engineering challenges, including a joint Honda and DriveOhio pilot project on proactive roadway maintenance, the evolving role of internal combustion engines in a changing energy landscape, and advances in software-driven thermal management.

Thursday continues with sessions examining the growing role of artificial intelligence in vehicle development, including applications in powertrain development, automotive interior design, and human-machine interaction.
