Mercedes Williams Honored with Franciscan Values Award

LIVONIA, MICH. - Madonna University announced Mercedes Williams, director of the Mosaic Leadership Academy, as the recipient of the 2025 Franciscan Values Award for staff members. This award recognizes individuals who exemplify the university's Franciscan values in their work and life.

Williams was honored for her contributions to the Madonna community, particularly in diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental stewardship. Her colleagues nominated her for the award, noting her efforts to create an inclusive and sustainable campus.

As the director of Mosaic Leadership Academy, Williams leads a scholarship program that develops student leaders for an inclusive world. The academy promotes appreciation of diversity and respect for cultures, races, backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences.

Williams' commitment extends beyond Mosaic. She has been involved with the Black Student Union and DEIB efforts. Her work ensures that all members of the community feel valued and respected.

In addition to her diversity work, Williams has shown dedication to environmental stewardship. She organized a Campus Clean-Up event and helped coordinate transportation for MU Sustainability's Wild Bird event, encouraging students to connect with nature.

The Franciscan Values Award is presented annually to staff members who demonstrate commitment to Madonna University's values and mission. Williams will be recognized at a university event later this year.
