Congresswoman Simon’s Statement on the President’s Joint Address to Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) released the below statement on President Donald Trump's joint address to Congress.

"I will be attending President Trump's joint address to Congress tonight.

"Quite simply, this isourHouse, and as my mother told me growing up-you don't let anyone kick you out of your own house.

"We already know that President Trump will only continue to advance narratives that serve himself, and we have already seen how his actions have devastated the lives of Americans across the nation in only a few short months. But just as I have continued to uphold Congress' power of checks and balances as a Member of the Oversight Committee, it is important to me to reinforce Congress' separate but equal power and act as a witness to truth tonight in the Capitol.

"This week, I will highlight constituents from our district who have been impacted by President Trump's indiscriminatory and devastating policies, who will be my virtual 'guests.' My constituents sent me to Congress to represent and defend our democratic values. I will do that tonight and every day I serve as the Congresswoman for California's 12th Congressional District."
