New Brunswick Designated as “Film Ready Community”

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (March 17, 2026) - The City of New Brunswick has officially been designated as a "Film Ready Community" through the Film Ready New Jersey Program, an initiative of the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA).

The designation recognizes municipalities that have completed a structured certification process to prepare their communities to accommodate film and television productions and effectively market themselves as filming destinations.

New Brunswick is among the newest cohort of municipalities selected for the program, joining communities across the state that are positioning themselves to take advantage of the rapidly growing film and television industry in New Jersey.

The Film Ready New Jersey Program provides training and resources to municipal leaders on how to support film productions, including permitting, coordination with public safety and municipal departments, and strategies to ensure that productions benefit local businesses and residents.

"New Brunswick has long been a City that welcomes innovation, creativity, and economic opportunity," said Mayor Jim Cahill. "Being designated as a Film Ready Community, positions New Brunswick to take part in the exciting growth of New Jersey's film and television industry. Our City offers a unique combination of great neighborhoods, historic architecture, vibrant downtown streets, world-class healthcare and research institutions, and a dynamic arts and cultural community. We look forward to welcoming filmmakers to New Brunswick and showcasing everything our City has to offer."

The Film Ready certification signals to producers that a municipality is prepared to host film and television projects, providing a predictable and efficient process for filming approvals and coordination. Communities that participate in the program are better equipped to attract productions ranging from independent films to major studio projects, which can generate local economic activity and visibility for businesses and neighborhoods.

As New Jersey continues to experience record levels of film and television production, the Film Ready initiative helps ensure that communities across the state can participate in the economic benefits associated with the industry, including job creation, tourism, and increased spending at local establishments.

With its diverse urban landscapes, historic districts, thriving arts scene, and central location in the heart of New Jersey, New Brunswick is uniquely positioned to serve as an attractive location for film and television productions seeking authentic settings and a supportive municipal partner.
